According to the publication, the company recently considered developing a browser that would integrate with its chatbot. Additionally, OpenAI has “discussed or made deals” to provide search functions for sites related to travel, food, real estate and retail, people familiar with prototypes of such products said.

According to them, the company discussed its search product with app and website developers, including Condé Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite and Priceline. If OpenAI creates its own browser, it will be able to compete with Google, which occupies a dominant position in the browser and search market, the publication writes.

Now developer ChatGPT has a search engine called SearchGPT, but the company is not yet “close” to launching its own browser, The Information clarified. Additionally, according to the publication, the company discussed using its technologies to introduce artificial intelligence into devices from Samsung, one of Google’s key partners.

Previously, the company entered into an agreement with Apple, according to which Apple Intelligence functions in the company’s new devices are based on OpenAI technologies.

Google’s position in the browser market may be affected by pressure from US authorities. Previously, the US Department of Justice, through a court, demanded that the company sell Chrome to end its online search monopoly. Hearings are expected to begin in April, according to the Associated Press. If the court agrees with the US authorities, the company will have to sell Chrome within six months of the decision.
