Kashuh noted that soups are well digestible thanks to their ingredients. These dishes contain a sufficient amount of liquid and fiber, which makes them satisfying: the feeling of satiety persists for a long time. The doctor noted that the liquid in the soup helps fill the stomach volume, and the fiber slows down the rate of penetration of glucose into the blood. Due to this, the brain receives signals that the stomach is gradually emptied and glucose levels decrease, and the person ultimately consumes fewer calories.

The gastroenterologist included dishes containing light broth, vegetable, mushroom, fish soups, diet meat, chicken or turkey as healthy soups. Among the soups that could negatively affect health, Kashuh included high-calorie, excessively fatty soups, as well as instant and bouillon cubes, due to too high in salt and preservatives.

Regarding the necessity of drinking soup every day, the doctor thinks that soup can be consumed 2-4 times a week. And it’s not the most important meal in the diet: you don’t have to eat soup. The doctor said that “grandmother’s explanations” about the need to eat soup every day to prevent gastritis were a myth.

“The most beneficial are low-fat soups cooked in light broth consisting of vegetables, mushrooms, fish, chicken, rabbit or beef. It is important that the soup contains vegetables, and animal protein can be replaced with vegetable protein such as beans, lentils and chickpeas. However, it is better to eat less soups that use fatty and high-calorie ingredients. These include cream, fatty meat and sour cream, bacon, flour. And of course, you should not indulge in ready-made soups and bouillon cubes that contain lots of salt and preservatives,” Kashuh emphasized.
