Security forces opened a criminal case against blogger Ilya Varlamov, recognized as a foreign agent, for evading the duties of a foreign agent. This is stated on the Telegram channel of the Moscow prosecutor’s office.

“On the basis of the materials of the inspection of the Moscow prosecutor’s office, a criminal case was opened against foreign agent Ilya Varlamov under Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code,” the department said in a statement. The maximum penalty provided for in this article is up to two years in prison.
The capital’s prosecutor’s office demanded in September that a criminal case be opened against Varlamov. They indicated that the blogger had already been subjected to administrative liability on two occasions during 2024 for distributing his materials on social networks without indicating his status as a foreign agent.
The Ministry of Justice included the blogger in the register of foreign agents in March 2023. The courts fined Varlamov for violating the law on foreign agents in August 2023, December 2023 and June 2024. After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the blogger left Russia.
