Japanese game development studio Kojima Productions issued a statement on the inadmissibility of spreading false news about its founder Hideo Kojima and threatened to sue those who mistake the game’s designer for the murderer of Japan’s former prime minister.
“Kojima Productions strongly condemns the spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information. We do not accept such defamation and in some cases we will consider going to court," the statement said.
Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot dead in Japan on Friday. Tetsuya Yamagami confessed to the murder. The criminal resembles the head of Kojima Productions in hair, hair color, and also wears glasses.
Perhaps this was why the French politician Damien Rieu confused Kojima and Yamagami by posting a photo of the famous game designer next to a portrait of Che Guevara, signing the post: "The ultra-left is killing."
Ryo later deleted the post, but his mistake was echoed by several foreign TV channels, including the Greek Ant 1, which also featured photos of Hideo Kojima in the report. The report was later deleted.
In 2005, game designer Hideo Kojima founded Kojima Productions, a division of Japanese video game developer and publisher Konami. In 2015, Kojima's studio became an independent company. Kojima Productions is the creator of the popular Metal Gear series and the Death Stranding action game.
