“By 2025, we will become a self-sustaining research laboratory serving millions of people. <…> Hopefully it will be billions of users around the world,” OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told the Financial Times.
In the two years since the launch of the ChatGPT chatbot, the number of active weekly users of the service has increased to 250 million people. Further growth in the user reach of OpenAI products is planned through so-called “AI agents”: its own AI-based search engine and ChatGPT integration with Apple devices.
According to a representative for developer ChatGPT, the company is preparing for what OpenAI founder Sam Altman calls the “age of intelligence.”
In early October, OpenAI closed a $6.6 billion investment round and received a valuation of $157 billion, becoming the world’s third-largest non-public company by capitalization.
Sarah Friar said OpenAI will continue to raise “more money” for further growth, referring to both equity and debt capital:
“We need to be at the forefront of linguistic models. “It’s expensive.”
