Ababil-3 is an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) actively used in various conflicts, including the war in Syria. It has been seen on battlefields in countries such as Lebanon, Iraq and Sudan, as well as in the civil wars in Syria and Yemen. It is used for reconnaissance and hitting targets. It is actively used by government forces and groups supporting them in Syria.
It can also mark targets for 152 mm guided projectiles designed to deliver precision hits on moving targets. It was reported that the militants seized the unmanned aerial vehicle as well as other military equipment at the air base. These include the Soviet-made S-200 anti-aircraft missile system, Mi-8 helicopter, L-39 trainer aircraft and Pantsir anti-aircraft missile system.
