Apple employee Amar Bhakt has sued the company, accusing it of spying on employees, suppressing free speech, invading privacy and withholding wages.
Bhakt has been working in Apple’s advertising technology department since 2020. According to him, the company banned him from speaking at public conferences on digital advertising, and also demanded that information about his work at Apple be removed from LinkedIn, citing its privacy policy.
According to the lawsuit, Apple prohibits employees from disclosing the skills, knowledge and experience gained at the company when looking for a new job. They also cannot discuss problems at work, including harassment, discrimination or unfair treatment, either with each other or with others.
All employees finally use Apple devices, software and services. If they use a personal device, they must connect it to their personal iCloud and agree to use software that gives the company access to virtually all the data that is on the device, including its current state.
If you keep your personal Photos account on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple-managed or Apple-supported computer, any data stored on the device (including emails, videos, videos, notes, and more) is gradually being moved by Apple.
Stated in the lawsuit
However, employees are not prohibited from using work devices and using iCloud accounts only for business purposes. However, the company “actively discourages” this.
Apple leaves Bhakt the choice of whether to use his own iPhone or a company-provided one. When he chose a personal iPhone, Apple installed an eSIM and a service to change the IP address on it, and also required him to use his personal iCloud to communicate with colleagues.
An Apple spokesperson said the company strongly disagrees with the claims in the lawsuit.
Every employee has the right to negotiate their salary, hours and working conditions, and this is part of our business conduct policy, which trains all employees annually.
