Microsoft has strengthened a position that was already known to the public, but still raised some hope in some users. In a new post on the brand’s tech news blog, the Windows 11 owner confirmed: will not release operating system updates on older hardware.

In the text the company insists once again: TPM 2.0 is a prerequisite for every device with Windows 11 operating system. So processors that do not support the technology will not actually be accepted by Microsoft’s official update methods for the current operating system.

The company has addressed this issue as part of its attempts to get the public to switch to the latest version of the platform permanently. Windows 10 support will end in October 2025, but it remains the most used operating system by Microsoft, especially since devices do not meet the hardware requirements listed by the brand.

Users remaining on Windows 10 will increasingly be advised to replace their devices with a more modern model in the coming months. Electronics continue to function normally, but the lack of support leaves them more vulnerable to possible new malware and attacks.

Another option is to purchase an additional year of additional system support, which will be available to ordinary consumers for the first time and will cost R$ 175.

What is TPM 2.0 and why is it important?

Trusted Platform Module 2.0 or TPM 2.0 is a security chip built into motherboards. Mainly used for: Provide greater security with features like end-to-end encryption and integrity measurements of the operating system.

Device manufacturers with Windows 11 pre-installed or released after 2021 normally TPM 2.0 is already built inbut older hardware – no matter how powerful it is in other respects, such as RAM and video card – is ultimately left out.

In recent months, Microsoft has even begun to block alternative ways to upgrade to Windows 11 for computers that do not meet basic technical requirements.
