Robot dogs have demonstrated their ability to improve workplace safety and prevent safety breaches.

Computer vision makes it possible to record in real time violations of safety regulations, the presence or absence of personal protective equipment, as well as the presence of strangers on the site. In addition, upon request, the robot will be able to recognize various situational analysis scenarios: fights, fallen people, abandoned objects, employees in dangerous or prohibited areas.

During the tests, the robotic dog was able to cover all points of the indicated route. When recognizing personal protective equipment, computer vision algorithms showed a classification accuracy of the presence of a helmet of 99.2%, a vest of 97.0%, and gloves of 92.1%.

  • Robot dogs are controlled by an operator using a remote control. In addition, it is water and dust resistant, which means it can operate in extreme working conditions: in mines, objects with high levels of radiation and construction sites.
  • The autonomy of the solution allows you to avoid hard-to-reach areas where stationary cameras are not effective. The operator will see a specific employee on the video and quickly send a message asking them to put on the necessary protective gear or notify the team leader.
  • With the help of additional sensors, dogs can also determine the state of equipment (integrity, temperature, vibration), instrument readings, heat and gas leaks.

Based on the results of testing at the construction site, the solution was recommended for inclusion in the Register of Innovative Solutions of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development of the city of Moscow. The dogs were also exhibited at the Forum of Innovation Centers (FIC-2024) on December 4.

The creators of robotic dogs claim their devices save the cost of fixed video surveillance.

According to Maxim Suvorov, technical director of the New Products Laboratory, robotic dogs are already in demand in Russia and are entering the international market.

“Where stationary solutions do not work, mobile robots work in any weather, time of day and even in dangerous conditions,” Suvorov added.

“VisionLabs computer vision opens up new opportunities for robots to monitor industrial facilities in environments where human control is limited,” added VisionLabs CEO Dmitry Markov.
