Indonesian Investment Minister Rozan Roeslani requested a $1 billion investment from Apple to lift the ban. The minister said any company that profits from sales in Indonesia must contribute to the local economy, create jobs and integrate Indonesia into its supply chain. He emphasized that such investments encourage suppliers to follow the same path.
Apple had previously offered to invest $100 million in accessory and component production in Indonesia, but this offer was rejected. The government considered this inadequate to meet standards of fairness.
