The dollar exchange rate on Forex exceeded 108 rubles

At its maximum, the dollar was worth 108.5047 rubles. At 16:49 Moscow time, the dollar was trading at 107.6 rubles, and its price rose by 4.56 rubles. The euro exchange rate on Forex exceeded 114 rubles. At 16:50 Moscow time, the European currency was worth 113.28 rubles (+4.8 rubles).

In the interbank market, the dollar almost reached 107 rubles, and the euro exceeded 114 rubles. Previously, on December 11, the Central Bank set the official exchange rate of the American currency for Wednesday at 100.0324 rubles and that of the European currency at 106.2024 rubles.

Economist and author of the Telegram channel “The Chinese Threat” Nikita Mitrofanov believes that the ruble will remain volatile for now. “During the export payment period, the ruble will strengthen as exchange demand increases. Once payments for oil and gas are made, support for the ruble ceases. And since there is less real currency in the system and its demand has not changed, the ruble will weaken,” the expert said.

He added that at the end of the month, during the tax period, “all those who have access to foreign currency income will exchange their income for rubles to pay taxes and salaries and, consequently, the ruble will again have support.” Mitrofanov noted that this is just a hypothesis.

Last week, the dollar fell below 100 rubles after a rapid collapse in late November due to US sanctions against Gazprombank and other credit institutions. Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov stated that the Russian currency should stabilize in the coming weeks.
