According to him, the number of monthly removals of pirated content on VK Video has reached 250 thousand. The company files complaints about controversial content using the DMCA form, and the site itself also operates an artificial intelligence-based Content ID system, which identifies digital content. fingerprinting of audio and video files as part of the fight against pirated content.

Market participants explained to the newspaper that most of these requests come from domestic copyright holders, as Western companies have stopped cooperating with Russian video hosting sites. Foreign studios and rights holders mainly turn to Russian video platforms to notify the expiration of the license for certain content, the newspaper’s media interlocutors explained.

Russian video hosting sites Nuum and RuTube refused to reveal to the newspaper data on the number of requests for pirated content and its removal. A Nuum representative told Kommersant that the fight against piracy is proceeding normally and that “there has been no increase in the volume of complaints about pirated content on the platform during the year.” Gazprom Media Holding Deputy General Director Sergei Kosinsky previously spoke on SPIEF about the publication of a large amount of pirated content on the platform and also that, at the request of the copyright holder, such videos are removed within a period of 24 hours.

At the same time, there is still unlicensed Western content on the platform, RB.RU is convinced. Thus, several versions of the 2023 films “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”, which were not officially released in Russian distribution, are available for free on Rutube hosting.

According to last year’s study by MUSO and Kearney, Russia is among the top countries in the consumption of pirated content, ranking third after the United States and India.
