The team includes former iRobot CTO Chris Jones and Ira Renfrew, who previously worked on Amazon’s discontinued Scout robot. According to media reports, Familiar Machines & Magic has already raised $15 million and is seeking the same amount. The job posting describes the company as a “well-funded” artificial intelligence and robotics startup based near Boston.

Engle chose his new direction after leaving iRobot following a failed sale to Amazon earlier this year. iRobot has since reduced staff and budget by focusing solely on cleaning devices.
