The New Year holidays are ahead, and what are we doing during this time? We take out our iPhones and start filming everything, so that we can later review the footage with unbridled fun and share it with the right and involved people.

There’s just one problem: as a rule, any light sources in the frame create an unpleasant flicker, often ruining the entire video. I want the videos to be clear and without any extraneous inclusions, otherwise why buy an iPhone with a cool stove for that kind of money.

There is a solution, and it is quite simple. No, I won’t recommend wiping the camera (although this should be done before shooting in the first place), you just need to activate one stage.

Which one, you ask. And here it is:

How to get rid of flickering in video

Go to settings and then:

▪️ go to the “Camera” section
▪️ click “Record video”
▪️ activate the “Show PAL formats” mode
▪️ select “25 fps (PAL)” in any quality

The thing is that PAL (Phase Alternating Line) is a standard form of video that helps to avoid flickering of lighting devices in the frame. This form is used on television in most European countries, as well as in Africa and Australia, since there, as in many other countries, the frequency of the current supplied to electrical appliances is 50 Hz.

In the USA, the frequency of alternating current is 60 Hz. Therefore, when shooting on an iPhone with default camera drives at a speed of 30 or 60 frames per second, there is no flickering when turned on artificially in this country.

But we are not in the USA. And in our country, alternating current has a voltage of 220 V and a frequency of 50 Hz. Therefore, the PAL format, in which shooting is carried out at a speed of 25 frames per second, helps to avoid flicker.

So feel free to activate this light and shoot great New Year’s videos to remember what happens next.
