NVIDIA asked major distributors, including Super Micro Computer and Dell, to conduct spot checks on customers. There are suspicions that some Chinese users, in particular, are falsifying server serial numbers by bypassing export restrictions.

In April, Chinese forums including Baidu and ZOL posted announcements of H100 shipments bearing Super Micro Computer logos. This raised questions about compliance with sanctions.

The situation is exacerbated by the distributor’s strained relationship with NVIDIA. The company is currently forwarding orders to other suppliers.

Allegations of fraud by Hindenburg Research further damaged SMCI’s reputation and led to the removal of the company’s shares from the Nasdaq 100 index.
