On December 21, the YuBust Telegram channel reported that a paid extension to speed up YouTube on the Chrome browser had been stolen. The developers do not know who stole the project, but they attribute the incident to the increasing number of attacks on the service amid the increasing blocking of YouTube in Russia.

According to the Chrome store, the number of users of the service is 2 million people. The authors of the message claim that the extension “never collected or stored” user data, but they could only guarantee this until the day of the theft.

In this sense, the developers ask users to uninstall and not install YuBoost, not to follow the link on the extension page in the store, to report the project in the Chrome store and to disable any Telegram bots associated with the project.

Additionally, the project’s Telegram channel shows messages from YuBust chatbots from potential scammers presenting themselves as the YuBoost team and reporting that the service is working as before, and messages about the theft of the extension are spread by a former employee who left the team.
