In winter, gadget batteries discharge faster, and this is due to the fact that chemical processes in batteries slow down in the cold. As Ilya Kazakov, technical director of the MTS Urent Power Banks service, explains, low temperatures increase the resistance inside the battery, slowing down the movement of charged particles. This causes devices to start losing their charge much faster, especially in cold weather.
To minimize battery loss in cold weather, Kazakov recommends charging your phone to full capacity beforehand. He also noted that a few simple tricks can help save battery: turning off location services, closing unnecessary apps, using power saver mode, and putting the phone on airplane mode when there’s no network. It is also recommended to turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS so that the device does not waste power searching for a signal.
Kazakov emphasized that the main rule for maintaining the functionality of the device in cold weather is temperature. He recommends keeping your phone close to your body in a warm place, such as the inside pocket of your jacket. To more effectively protect the battery, you can use special cases with additional insulation or keep the phone under your clothes to retain heat and prevent it from discharging quickly.
