LETI scientists have developed the ReGenesis Box system, which can increase the storage time of donor lungs to 72 hours, which is 4-12 times higher than similar technologies. This not only reduces the risk of organ damage but also increases the chance of a successful transplant to 90%, the university said. The main idea of ​​the project is to replace traditional cold storage with warm perfusion, which preserves organs in a functional state for longer.

The ReGenesis Box saturates the lungs with oxygen and nutrients using plasma replacement solution circulated through a pump. The system is equipped with sensors that monitor the state of the environment, correct operation of equipment and temperature conditions. Parameters are controlled via software and control is carried out from the display built into the device. According to development manager Maria Krapivnitskaya, the created digital twin of the system allows you to test the operation of the device in virtual space, saving time and resources.

The team’s plans for next year include designing a device and conducting preclinical trials. As project participant Anton Mityagin noted, they plan to complete the registration of medical equipment and launch it on the market within three years. The developers also believe that the virtual model of the system will help young LETI engineers better understand the process and improve the design of the device.
