“Demand for tinsel decreased significantly – by 26%, even though the average bill increased by only 5%. The average cost of garlands increased by 15%, their demand increased by 5%,” the study indicates.
Kontur.Market clarifies that the average cost of tinsel in 2024 was 72 rubles per unit of product, and garlands – 319 rubles.
The most expensive New Year’s decorations were Christmas tree balls and toys: their average cost increased by 35%, to 157 rubles per piece. At the same time, sales of these products fell 16%, according to the study.
On average, prices for New Year’s products increased by 21% this year. Kontur.Market experts studied 3.1 million sales receipts from November 13 to December 13, 2024 and compared them with the same period in 2023. Analysts examined the evolution of demand and prices for trees Christmas, garlands, tinsel, Christmas balls and decorations, sparklers and crackers.
“The increase in cost was influenced by seasonality: people are preparing for the New Year. In addition, the increase in prices is due to the increase in raw material prices, since imported materials are used in production,” said Kontur.Market analyst Daria Zhigalina.
At the same time, according to Zhigalina, the 12% decrease in demand for New Year’s products is disproportionate to the price increase. This is due to the fact that “Russians are not ready to save on the festive atmosphere.”
