2024 results on Steam showed that platform users continue to prefer old games.
According to Steam Replay data, only 15% of game time this year was spent on published projects.
By comparison, gamers spent 47% of their time in games released between 1 and 7 years ago, and 37% in games that were more than 8 years old.
Although the popularity of new products seems to be low, gaming times have increased compared to last year. In 2023, new games accounted for only 9% of this number, while in 2022 this figure was 17%.
The popularity of old games is due to their quality and durability.
Projects such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2 and PUBG continue to occupy leading positions in the Steam charts, and cult games such as GTA V remain at the top for many years.
