Scientists at the Russian Railways subsidiary JSC NIIAS (Research and Design Institute of Informatization, Automation and Communications in Railway Transport) are testing robots in the form of dogs. The devices are equipped with cameras and lidars (a laser locator that measures the distance to objects – editor’s note) and automatically transmit data to the operator’s computer, the company claims.
“Experts have studied: how biomorphs carry out the prescribed algorithm of actions; move around the infrastructure with legs and wheels; battery life of “dog” batteries, says a message posted on the operator’s Telegram channel.
In the future, “robot dogs” can be used to “monitor compliance with labor protection and transport safety, diagnose the condition of infrastructure and rolling stock,” the company clarified.
Previously, on December 4, computer vision company VisionLabs, together with the New Products Laboratory, tested robotic dogs at the construction site of the International Medical Cluster (IMC) Foundation in Moscow. Robot dogs have demonstrated the ability to improve workplace safety and prevent safety violations.
