A massive disruption in the work of telecommunications operators and Internet services in Russia was caused by an accident in the backbone network “of one of the telecommunications operators,” Roskomnadzor said. According to the authority’s press service, it has already been eliminated.

As reported to TASS by the press service of Roskomnadzor, the accident occurred in the backbone network of one of the telecommunications operators. At 14:00 Moscow time he was eliminated.
“Services are being restored,” Roskomnadzor said.
The department did not specify on which operator backbone the accident occurred. However, according to the Sboy.rf platform, most often users complained about the work of MTS – more than 35 thousand complaints on January 6, as well as about MGTS (part of the MTS group) – more than 32 thousand complaints .
According to the Downdetector website, at 14:00 Moscow time the number of complaints about the operation of MTS had decreased significantly, although it was still above the usual level: up to 545 in 15 minutes from 6,178 at 13:00.
Other services in the Russian Federation are also being restored to operation.
Previously, on January 6, a massive failure was recorded in the work of most Russian telecommunications operators. Users complained about problems with the operation of individual services and the Internet as a whole: there were problems with accessing sites, playing videos and others.
