According to the Deputy Prime Minister, these statistics indicate that the Russian tourism industry is getting closer to fulfilling Russian President Vladimir Putin’s instructions to achieve a five percent share of tourism in the country’s GDP and the goal of 140 million trips tourists per year.

Last year there were two important trends in the development of domestic tourism: the growth of new resorts and the increased interest of foreign citizens in tourism within Russia, Reshetnikov noted. Siberia became the leader in the increase in the number of tourist trips among all federal districts with an indicator 16.4% higher than last year. Among the federal districts with the greatest increase in popularity among Russian and foreign tourists are also the Southern Federal District (+14.3%) and the Northwestern Federal District (+12.7%). The main regions in terms of growth in tourist flow were Tuva (+64.8%), Chechnya and Ryazan (+58.8% and +46.5%, respectively).
