Ransomware attack on Casio in October last year caused data leak of approximately 8,500 peopleAccording to updates published by the Japanese giant last Tuesday (07) following the conclusion of the investigations. Company employees were among those most affected.

Of the total number of people affected, 6,456 are people working for the electronics brand. Their full names, ID numbers, emails, gender, dates of birth, family information, addresses, phone numbers and other sensitive data were improperly accessed.

Data of the company’s trading partners were also compromised, including 1,931 individuals in this category. The authors of the malicious campaign collected names, emails, phone numbers, names and addresses, and identity card details of the companies involved, in some cases.

The total number of customers exposed in the Casio data leak was 91, including information such as name, shipping address, phone number, date of purchase and name of the product purchased.

The cyberattack also led to access to different internal documents of the multinational company, such as invoices, contracts and meeting minutes.

No negotiations with cybercriminals

The Japanese manufacturer also confirmed that it will send personalized notifications to each of the people whose data was leaked in this cyber attack. According to the report, There was no collateral damage or credit card leak to those involved.

Another detail Casio revealed is that it chose not to negotiate with the Underground ransomware group responsible for the improper access. At the time, the authors threatened to release the seized files if the company did not pay the ransom.

“After consulting with law enforcement, external attorneys and security experts, Casio did not respond to unreasonable demands from the ransomware group that performed the unauthorized access,” the company said. Most of the affected services were already running normally at the time of the attack.
