Researchers studied two hominid fossils discovered during excavations in Hubei province in 1989 and 1990. In 1994, Chinese paleoanthropologist Jia Lanpo named these fossils Yunxian Man, based on their location. Although scientists classify humans as hominid, it is important to note that when determining sex, they are considered in terms of male and female, not standard gender categories (male and female).
Thus, anthropologists determined that the fossilized skulls found belonged to a man and a woman who lived between 800,000 and 1.1 million years ago. Hominids died between the ages of 25 and 45.
Scientists were also able to reconstruct the faces of the Yunxian people. In this context, the Chinese museum put the recreated faces of hominids on public exhibition.
