At the end of December 2024, the largest plywood manufacturer in Russia and the world, Sveza, acquired three factories for the production of packaging and cigarette paper, previously owned by the Austrian holding Mayr-Melnhof, which left the Russian Federation in 2022. Kommersant drew attention to the updated SPARK data.

The publication notes that Sveza now belongs to MMPOF Packaging LLC, MMPOF Rotogravure LLC and Nevskie Grani LLC, 100% of which is pledged to Sberbank.
The corporation does not disclose the amount of the transaction, but market experts suggest that successfully operating factories will have revenues by 2023 of 7.9 billion rubles (“Packaging”), 4.2 billion rubles (“Packaging”) Rotogravure”) and 2.3 billion rubles (“Rotogravure”) and 2.3 billion rubles (“Packaging”) could be purchased at a price “close to the market”: in total, around 13 billion rubles.
The general director of Sveza-Les LLC, Anatoly Frishman, does not reveal figures, but notes that the acquisition of new assets continues the “policy of diversification and strengthening of positions in the paper and cardboard markets.” Previously, in the summer of 2024, Sveza bought the Kama pulp and paper mill for 36 billion rubles from Augment Investments Limited.
Sveza expects a significant “synergistic effect” from the new acquisitions and separately highlights the possible role of Nevskiye Grani, through which it would be possible to replace imports of cigarette paper, which is currently supplied from China and is of rather low quality.
