The demand of Russians for tourist and business visas for Asian countries increased sharply in 2024, several times exceeding the interest in visas for Schengen countries, Kommersant writes, citing representatives of travel agencies.

According to the general director of the Aeroclub company, Yulia Lipatova, the demand for Chinese visas by Russians is 3.5 times higher than that for Schengen visas, and the number of visa applications for China is almost has doubled year after year. Demand for Japanese visas also showed significant growth: 2.7 times more people applied for visas than in 2023, Lipatova noted.
In his opinion, the demand for visas directly depends on changes in the geopolitical and economic situation, as well as on the availability of transport connections between these countries and Russia.
Similar data was provided by the business tourism agency Continent Express, according to which in 2024 Russians applied for Japanese visas 2.7 times more often, and for Chinese visas – 37% more than in the same period in 2023.
According to travel service Trivio, 59.5% of all visa applications came from China, another 10.4% from Japan and 6.4% from India. The total flow of outbound tourists last year increased by 13%; Russians most frequently visited Vietnam (an increase of 2.8 times year-on-year), Mauritius (2.2 times), China (2.1 times), as well as Morocco and Japan. with an increase of 81% and 80%, respectively, reported MTS Travel.
According to the FSB border service, in the first half of last year alone, the number of trips by Russians to China increased almost three times year-on-year (184.5%), up to 793.5 thousand visits. At the same time, Türkiye remained the main tourist destination for Russian citizens, which was visited 2.5 million times in the first six months.
