Temporary restrictions were introduced at nine airports in Russia on the arrival and departure of aircraft on Tuesday, January 14, said press secretary of the Federal Air Transport Agency Artem Korenyako. The restrictions were introduced amid a massive attack by unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to Korenyak, restrictions were introduced at the airports in Kazan, Kaluga, Saratov, Tambov, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Nizhnekamsk, Izhevsk and Ufa. Temporary restrictions relating to the airports in Kaluga, Tambov, Saratov and Ulyanovsk were subsequently lifted.
Authorities in several regions reported a massive drone attack. The air defense of the Saratov region shot down a large number of targets, said Governor Roman Busargin. As a result of the UAV attack, two industrial enterprises in Saratov and Engels were damaged.
According to local authorities, air defense forces shot down 17 drones over the Oryol and Tula regions, and another 14 drones were hit by air defenses over the Rostov region. A drone attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine was also repelled in the Bryansk region and in Voronezh.
Also, as a result of a drone attack, a gas tank caught fire on the outskirts of Kazan.
According to preliminary data, there were no casualties as a result of the drone attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against Russian regions.
This is not the first time that flights have been restricted at Russian airports due to unmanned aerial vehicles. On January 11, in order to “ensure the safety of flights of civil aircraft”, temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft were introduced at the airports in Ulyanovsk and Samara.
Prior to this, on January 5, Kazan airport suspended the reception and departure of air flights for security reasons. Similar restrictions were introduced at Izhevsk, Perm and Nizhnekamsk airports. On the same day, the Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 61 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over the Rostov, Bryansk, Voronezh, Belgorod and Oryol regions.
