“Lately this vehicle sector has become very relevant, many car manufacturers have already presented their vision in this direction. “We decided to keep up the pace and develop our own flying car project,” Filatov said.
The car is a synthesis of a car and a quadcopter: for driving on land it has wheels, and for flying in the air, four propellers in the corners of the body. On land, the beams with propellers will fold into special side compartments with flaps to improve aerodynamics. IF-9 will run on green fuel: electricity or hydrogen.
For safety, the driver’s cabin can be separated from the car and landed independently using two parachutes. In an emergency, the two-seater capsule is launched upwards by firing firecrackers and, upon landing, the speed damping system is activated.
The design bureau plans to soon begin the first flight tests of the IF-9 prototype using remote control without the participation of a human pilot, but external investments will be needed to complete the project.
