Kia’s head of corporate communications and public relations, James Bell, confirmed the delay but did not give an exact timeframe. Kia EV owners “expressed disappointment with this news, as some had expected access as soon as this week.”
However, Kia has not changed its plans to provide charging adapters: the devices will be provided free of charge to owners of new EV9 (2024 or 2025) and EV6 (2024) models purchased after September 4, 2024. Owners of earlier models will need to purchase adapters from an authorized Kia dealer.
Six other brands currently have access to the Supercharger, including Ford, Rivian, GM, Polestar, Volvo and Nissan; Volkswagen is also expected to have access in June.
