The seventh test flight of the SpaceX Starship super-heavy rocket took place in the United States from the spaceport in Boca Chica (Texas).
Overall the launch went well, with the exception of the loss of Starship S33, which exploded 8.5 minutes after launch. Mechazilla successfully captured the Super Heavy B14 booster, the Raptor Starship engine operated normally, and the hot stage separation was successful.
The wreckage of the ship was spectacularly preserved in the atmosphere, visible in the sky over the Turks and Caicos Islands.
According to preliminary data, we had a gas/fuel leak into the oral cavity above the firewall of the ship’s engine.
— Elon Musk
According to Musk, the leak was large enough to create pressure that exceeded the capacity of the vent.
