“The Center for Monitoring and Control of the Public Communications Network (MCN SSOP) records a failure in the operation of the largest online store for computer games, Steam, user complaints have been noted all over the world, in particularly in Germany, the USA, Russia and the United Kingdom,” indicated the RKN.
Member of the State Duma Information Policy Committee Anton Nemkin stressed on his Telegram channel that we are not talking about blocking the service. “Let me remind you that no one planned or plans to block Steam in Russia. Unverified and unreliable information should not be multiplied and the failure attributed to implausible reasons,” he wrote, adding that the problem arose in the service itself and affects players from other countries.
Previously, on January 17, users in Russia, the United States, Germany and other countries reported a bug in Steam. Complaints began to arrive around 14:00 Moscow time. They concerned problems establishing an Internet connection, loading the site and running the program. “I can’t see my profile or my friends. It doesn’t start games,” wrote a user on Downdetector.su. At the peak at 14:36 Moscow time, 1.8 thousand users reported a failure.
Steam is an online store and platform for launching games. After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the service prohibited Russian users from replenishing their accounts with Russian bank cards.
