Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer UBTech has announced a partnership with Foxconn and Apple.
The company’s robots will be used in Foxconn factories to assemble the iPhone. They are capable of performing “complex and delicate production tasks.” UBTech has already started training these robots.
The factories will use the Walker S1 model, introduced in October 2024. This robot is 1.72 meters tall and weighs 76 kg. It is designed to perform a variety of tasks, from visual quality control to handling boxes of different sizes. In addition, the Walker S1 learned how to tighten screws, assemble components, and sort parts.
Apple will likely use these robots mainly to solve logistics problems.
UBTech also cooperates with other major Chinese companies such as BYD, Geely, Dongfeng Motor, FAW-Volkswagen and SF Express. [Interesting Engineering]
