The man, in his 40s, followed a “carnivore diet”, eating up to 9kg of cheese, butter and burgers a day. Although she noticed weight loss and increased energy, doctors discovered that high cholesterol levels were causing a condition called xanthelasma. This occurs when excess cholesterol leaks from the blood vessels and forms yellow deposits, often on the skin.
Although xanthelasma is sometimes seen around the eyes, it can occur anywhere in the body and is associated with heart disease due to high cholesterol. Although this case does not indicate the man’s long-term health condition, it is a “warning”.
