High resolution allows you to crop and enlarge images without losing clarity. The media writes that although such a high number of megapixels is usually used in medium format cameras, Canon’s innovation allows this sensor to work with standard full-frame camera lenses.

To achieve this, Canon redesigned the sensor circuit and used a “stacked” structure for faster processing. The readout speed is 3,280 megapixels per second and video can be recorded at 8 frames per second. The monochrome version of the sensor can combine pixels for brighter images or capture 100-megapixel video at 24 frames per second.

This sensor is not yet intended for consumer cameras.
