The Bifrost cable system, a joint project between Keppel, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms Inc*, and PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International, should be ready for commercial operation in the second half of 2025, Keppel said in a statement released on Friday.
The cable, which will be more than 20,000 kilometers long, will connect the USA and Singapore via Indonesia. It is expected to be ready for commercial use in the second half of 2025.
The project cost is estimated at $760 million, of which $350 million falls to Keppel’s share. According to the company, the cable will significantly strengthen Singapore’s strategic position as Asia’s leading digital hub and support the region’s fast-growing digital economy.
According to Singapore’s Digital Development Minister Josephine Teo, the development of undersea cables and data centers will bring $14.8 billion in investment to the country. Additionally, Singapore plans to invest up to $12 billion in the construction of environmentally friendly data centres.
