The Mars RB.RU press service announced the lack of plans to reduce food production. “The entire line of our animal feed is performed in its entirety, a decrease is not planned. Our products are more than 90% produced by Russian raw materials. We have a supply of food additives and alternative recipes, ”the company explained.

They added that Mars resorted to Rosselkhoznadzor with a request to certify a foreign company, which produces a food additive used by the company and hopes to obtain permission to import it to Russia in the near future.

Since January 20, the Rosselkhoznadzor, due to the outbreak of the disease of the feet and mouth in Germany, suspended the certification of all the animals and products susceptible to them, imported from the EU to Russia. The EU authorities introduced quarantine in the area with a radius of approximately 10 km around the farm with a standing and mouth disease, but Rosselkhoznadzor considered these insufficient measures.

The prohibition of pet food components, including gelatin and milk proteins, fell under the ban. According to the president of the National Association of the Zo industry, Kirill Dmitriev, the prohibition affected the categories of components, without which it is impossible to produce animal feed in Russia. These are the digests that help increase the digestibility of the protein, and the palatans are aromatizing and amplifiers of the taste of dry feeding. Without these additives, food becomes less “eaten” and less useful, Dmitriev said.

“Any change in food recipe by replacing additives is a very complex process. This, in fact, develops the recipe again. <...> You may have to change the recipe more than once. These are a few months and enough money, without guarantee of a positive result, ”warned the president of the association.

The organization resorted to Rosselkhoznadzor with an application to get some palatal and digones of the prohibition. Manufacturers have a product supply, but it is not unlimited, Dmitriev said.
