We are talking about paintings, varnishes and other components to create bright and unusual covers, cuts and colored outputs. Especially the deficit affected the selective varnishing and the printing of the template used to achieve clear contours and a high quality image, the EKSMO-AST representative observed.
According to the head of the Rosman publishing house, Boris Kuznetsov, the lack of high quality printing decoration has become a “chronic problem” for the industry in recent years. Due to the deficit in 2024, the company did not print at least 180 thousand books with a torn of color.
Due to the lack of production capabilities in Rosman, they plan to minimize the printing volume within Russia, redirecting most of the orders to China. However, as Kuznetsov pointed out, this process is long, expensive and complex.
In the press service of the Cyphra Ministry, RBC declared that there is no shortage to decorate books in the industry. At the same time, the Ministry admitted that the recently manifested trend in the additional decoration has led to a greater burden on printing capabilities, which are responsible for some types of finishing work.
As explained in the department, in particular, it affected the technologies, which were previously widely used by the editors, for example, the coloration of the cuts. The Minces expect “a proposal in the field of ending of printing works to reach a balance with a greater demand in the near future.”
According to EKSMO-AST, the main reason for deficiency is the growth of the consumption of Youngadult literature. These are modern youth books, more often written in the genres of romance, science fiction or fantasy, for which impression plays a key role, explained in the group.
At the end of 2024, Kommersant sources in the book market reported that since the beginning of 2025, printed books will grow by 7-10%. According to newspaper interlocutors, this is due to the increase in the cost of printing services by 20%, paper and other materials, as well as an increase in commissions for ongoing commissions by an average of 4 to 7%.
