Ranepas: About 10% of the relocated returned to Russia

According to the study, 26.7% of those who returned to Russia changed the country during emigration. In turn, almost half of them (46.8%) moved to other states at least twice.

However, 64% of those who left Russia remained in the same country in which experts initially said. Another 26% of respondents changed the country of stay more than once and at the time of the survey continued to live abroad, the study said.

The monitoring results were obtained during an online sociological survey, in which 3,459 people participated in February-March of 2024.

According to the authors of the study, in 2022 around 650 thousand people could leave Russia. At the same time, experts surveyed by Vdomosti indicated that it is difficult to determine the exact number of emigration, since not all countries publish the necessary statistics.

The founder of the Bespalov International consulting boutique, Alexander Bespalov, told RB.ru that, at first glance, Ranepa’s evaluation seems low. “For other studies last year, estimates appeared at 30%and even 40%of the relocated relocated, and here only 10%,” explained the expert. Bespalov also states that the numbers turned out to be “somewhat underestimated”, since from the moment the survey was held for almost a year: “According to our estimates, the main return wave came in the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024. If the survey was conducted in the fall of last year, the percentage of yield would be greater.

Bespalov Finance believes that at the beginning of 2025, about 20% of those who really left the country for a long time returned to Russia. At the same time, Bespalov said, they appear constantly tabs. “At this time, the number of those who leave and those who return can be considered more or less the same,” he said.

In addition, Bespalov confirmed that most of the retransmissions that went to the “first choice countries” (Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia and Turkey) then changed the country of residence. Experts believe that those who went to other states were more likely to remain in them.

“And this is understandable: other countries usually choose deliberately, and in the first choice, countries left because it was easier. Many of them chose countries already again and consciously, systematically solving problems with a residence permit, real estate, etc. “Bespalov Finance chief said.

However, doubt of Georgia’s leadership position. “According to our data, Kazakhstan and Armenia accepted no less Russians. At the same time, no one has precise numbers, especially because in Georgia and Armenia, Russians can live for a long time without additional documents, ”Bespalov summarized.
