In January, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko said that the domestic IT industry lacks about 1 million specialists. And already in June 2022, the number of resumes of applicants for IT positions increased by 54%. At the same time, job offers have decreased significantly. Many companies left the Russian Federation after Russia sent troops to Ukraine, while others suspended hiring.

Most of the applicants are young. But companies need more experienced professionals. The mass migration of foreign companies has produced mixed results. On the one hand, they brought experienced developers with them. At the same time, it turned out that the salaries of programmers who moved to the European Union are lower than in Moscow. For example, a technology leader in France receives an average of 2,800 euros (about 180,000 rubles), after deducting all taxes and fees. However, TraceAir regional manager Artur Khasiyatullin says they will ask for 300,000 rubles for the same position in Moscow. He also noted that a Russian IT specialist can register as a self-employed person with the lowest tax rate of 6%, but in fact, the maximum income of a self-employed person should not exceed 2.4 million rubles per year.

On the other hand, competition with Western companies is intensifying as experienced IT professionals are motivated to move to Europe.

As Sekret Firmy summarizes, it’s now possible to get into IT, but without hassle and also without inflated salary expectations.
