The system, called China Fuyan, is being built by the Beijing Institute of Technology. In fact, it consists of many antennas, each 25 to 30 meters in diameter. Together they will be able to observe high-resolution asteroids within 150 million km, about a distance from Earth to the Sun.

In addition to tracking asteroids, the system’s missions will, in principle, include the study of near-Earth space. Radar, in particular, can be helpful in sensing space.

To date, the construction of the first two antennas of the series has been completed. They will be tested in September.
