The new technology process 18A can be a breakthrough for the Intel Semiconductor unit, which aims to pay attention to the basis of the dominance of Taiwanese TSMC. After making a profitable agreement with the US administration, many customers began to see TT American plants as a reliable alternative to production in Taiwan. Intel plans to change the situation with the help of 18A, which can be compared with TSMC 2NM in terms of density and efficiency.
The company has already introduced this technology at the Direct Connect 2025 event and announced its advantage compared to the previous generation Intel 3.
The increase in interest in 18a is also associated with personnel reorganization: Lip-Boo Tan has become Intel’s new general manager. Under its leadership, the company plans to focus on automating chips design, packaging and development of contract production.
An additional factor in favor of Intel is the overloaded TSMC production that forces other companies to search for alternative suppliers. While Samsung Foundry is left behind, Intel has the chance to have a visible place in the market.
