Traditional platinum drugs, despite extensive use, often cause serious side effects and lose their activity with reuse. Chlors accumulate selectively in tumors and destroy them under the influence of light. Scientists managed to create stable compounds that combine both components.
According to the researchers, this approach solves two problems at the same time. The platinum part provides a systemic effect on the entire body and chlors allows you to increase the effect during irradiation locally. This may increase the effectiveness of treatment and reduce the toxicity of the treatment.
Development is especially valid for aggressive and resistant cancer forms. The university says that the new method will accelerate the creation of modern types of therapy for cancer.
