In Russia, up to 300,000 tons of oil and gas production, drilling sludge containing dangerous substances accumulates. Scientists from the Perm polytechnic found a way to use these wastes to create a road surface. They showed that the addition of mud to asphalt concrete not only solved the disposal problem, but also reduces the cost of rising to 18%.

A drill slope is a mixture of rock, oil and chemicals formed during drilling. Typically, it is buried or burned, but such methods are expensive and do not prevent toxic substances in soil and water. Studies have shown that mud may be an effective component of the asphalt concrete mixture during processing and appropriate dosage. Scientists found that the optimal sludge concentration in the mixture was 5 to 7%.

The use of washed drilling sludge samples makes it more resistant to asphalt loads, heat and water. The mineral part of the wastes replaces traditional dust and the petroleum products act as a binding. This approach not only helps to solve the environmental problem, but also makes roads cheaper. Development is already consistent with GOST and can be an important step in the processing of industrial wastes in the country.
