China leads local companies such as Huawei, BYD and Xiaomi in the field of “smart” mobility, which is actively developing technologies for autonomous cars. For BMW, this is a strategic step to compete with Chinese brands such as Nio and Xpeng, which already offers innovative solutions in the field of autonomous driving and AI. In China, in contrast to Europe and the United States, where BMW cooperate with Google and Apple, local technologies determine their own rules.

Cooperation is focused on integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into automobile systems. This includes smart sound assistants who use the processing of a natural language to interact with the driver, as well as advanced navigation and entertainment systems that can analyze road conditions and offer real -time suggestions. Huawei will also integrate BMW cars with a cloud services and intelligent home ecosystem through Harmonyos – an alternative to Android and iOS.
