The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, sent a letter to the Minister of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev, in which he asked to support the initiative of the state corporation to develop a Russian game engine (video game development tool).

Rostec announced its readiness to create the first Russian game engine

The head of the state corporation offered to transfer the Rosinfokominvest fund to Rostec, whose funds could be used to create the first Russian game engine, Kommersant newspaper reports, citing sources.

The Ministry of Digital Development confirmed receipt of the letter and stated that in this case they do not see the need to attract public investment. The agency recommended considering risk financing from non-state funds.

Rostec explained to the publication that after the departure of foreign companies, "the niche was liberated", and equipment with "valuable experience" entered the market.

The state corporation believes that the technology will be useful not only for video games, but also for virtual reality projects, cinema, animation, industry and education.

For the first time, the question of the need to develop a Russian game engine was raised in May at a closed-door meeting of representatives of the presidential administration with the gaming industry. There it was discussed that domestic developers directly depend on foreign engines (Unreal Engine and Unity) and their owners can leave Russian companies without the main tool.

In July, it became known that the government began to consider a possible support mechanism for the company, which will be responsible for the development of the game engine.
