According to the decision of the judge of the 8th Civil Court of Cuiabá, iPhone XR owner will receive compensation apple 9,600 BRL due to a problem with splashes. According to the information obtained, the company refused to repair the device after it had problems due to contact with water.

The owner of the iPhone XR sued Apple for moral and material damages because it started having problems with the device less than a year after it was purchased on the company’s official website.

The customer purchased the device in June 2019, but in March 2020, the device began to experience serious problems after coming into contact with splashes of water. However, in the advertisements of the company, it was emphasized that the model can withstand up to 30 minutes at depths of up to 2 meters below the water level.

Since the root of the problem started in 2020, the amount of compensation will be corrected by interest and monetary adjustment.  The decision is still open to appeal.

Water resistance?

With still two months in warranty, the customer took the iPhone XR to an authorized service center, but Apple did not authorize the repair. According to the company, data from contact with water cannot be repaired – the advice of the technical team to the consumer was to purchase a new device.

“The technical specifications disclosed in the defendant’s own communication channels, included in the defense and the grounds of appeal, leave no doubt and convince the consumer that the iPhone XR device has functional resistance even when submerged at maximum depth. Judge Edna Ederli Coutinho, two meters and a time limit of up to 30 minutes ” said.
