The British Competition and Markets Competition (CMA) says Apple and Google really control the entire mobile platform market in the country – 90-100% of the devices are working under their systems. Requests include a commission of up to 30% for inconsistent and opaque application verification procedures, unstable sorting algorithms and applications within the applications.
The regulatory proposes to bring the status of strategic market importance for both companies. This will make it possible to force them to change the rules for them to be more predictable and open – for example, they warn them in advance about the change of politics or provide understandable channels for complaints to developers. The final decision to assign this status will be made until October 22nd.
Companies expressed their dissatisfaction with what happened. Google called the initiative to intervene in unreasonable and growth, and Apple said that new measures could weaken the protection of user data. At the same time, developers such as epic games take into account the organizer’s actions. The company is not satisfied with the postponement of the competition problem between the application stores until 2026 and that it is called a kidnapped opportunity.
