Under the pressure of the Euroconsumers, Microsoft agreed to provide free expanded security updates (ESU) without additional conditions.
Initially, the company planned that users should open the Windows backup function that requires Microsoft’s account to obtain patches.
This will actually force many of them to go beyond 5 GB free of 5 GB and get a cloud storage. Now this attachment has been removed in the European Economic Region (EEA) countries.
Microsoft’s representative confirmed the changes, saying that the company has updated the registration process for “corresponding to local expectations and will provide a safe experience”.
It is important that free updates can only be used until October 13, 2026. Business users can buy additional patch up to three years.
Euroconsumers are already trying to support ordinary consumers to minimize cyberoz risks.
