According to Ray, he has made significant progress: Thanks to the implant placed in his brain, he can now control a robotic arm. This can literally be done “with the power of thought”. Ray mentioned this on his page on the social network X.
Ray is the eighth patient to test Neuralink’s brain implant technology. He had long been diagnosed with ALS, which left him paralyzed from the neck down. In a short video, he demonstrated his new ability to control a robotic arm that allows him to hold a cup and talk at the same time.
Ray describes his experience as revolutionary and emphasizes that he is now able to perform many daily tasks independently. “I put on my own hat for the first time in years! I microwaved chicken nuggets, opened the fridge, and held jar lids—all with my new hands.”
Ray also broke the record in the motor coordination test, moving 39 objects on the table in five minutes. He notes that up to eight hours of training per day are required to achieve these results.
